What Is A Giclee Print?
Giclee printing is currently the highest quality standard for printing single or limited edition prints. The term "giclee" (pronounced "ZHEE-CLAY") is a French word meaning "to spray." Giclee prints are created by spraying millions of droplets of ink onto archival fine-art substrates. The word "giclee," as a fine-art term, has come to be associated with prints using fade-resistant archival pigmented inks printed on archival substrates by professional inkjet printers. Giclee prints represent the highest evolution in printmaking technology. The giclee printing process provides better color accuracy and richer depth of color than other means of art reproduction possible.

When I first made a print of this painting, my first and only print available of any of my paintings at this time, I was very skeptical about this whole process. I was concerned that the detail and the color of the paintings would not turn out the way that I wanted. I experimented in printing a giclee on canvas as well  but I noticed the loss of detail and the actual fibers of the canvas showed through which took away from the sensitivity in the brush work on the original painting. After some experimenting and trouble shooting I decided on creating traditional Giclee prints on the museum quality paper and I am not exaggerating  when I say that I was truly shocked and impressed with the quality that resulted. Having created the originally painting myself, I was just overjoyed at how beautiful the prints turned out that I had to keep one for myself. -Marci
